Production Solutions Engineer (Manufacturing Process Engineer)

Target start date: Immediately. Relocation provided. (Please kindly send your resume in English.)

We are at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids. As we transition from R&D to full-scale manufacturing, we seek an experienced Production Solutions Engineer (Manufacturing Process Engineer) to join our internal Production Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maturing the assembly process for our next-generation bipedal humanoid robot, NEO.

Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will play a vital role in scaling production from the low volume prototype stage to serial manufacturing. You will get the chance to own, develop, launch and optimize your own assembly cell and see how it evolves from a low-throughput manual cell to a higher-throughput solution. The responsibilities include:

  • Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation for each stages of your assembly cell. This includes the design of the layout, Bill of Equipment, Bill of Process, Manufacturing BoM, Working Instructions, PFMEAs and so on...
  • Collaborate with technicians and other key production personnel to continuously improve production processes and optimise production flow
  • Evaluate assembly and test requirements and ensure that required solutions get delivered, whether that requires you to design an implement it or work with a 3rd party to have it delivered to you
  • Perform design and manufacturing assessments of new robot / subassembly designs while driving optimisation for manufacturability, quality, and cost - collaborate closely with the HW Engineering team on this
  • Maintain robust yet simple work instructions and track defects and part movement in a lightweight, scalable manner. Resolve non-conformances and identify root causes where necessary

The ideal candidate will have a background in process engineering, be familiar with fixture and tooling design, high-level expertise in industrial automation systems, strong quality management skills, and familiarity with design for manufacturing and assembly principles. We are looking for individuals with hands-on experience, a "get-things-done" attitude, and the ability to excel in both long-term planning and day-to-day execution of practical tasks.

Why this job is exciting

Every day is different! You will get to

  • define the way humanoid robots and its components should be assembled in a reliable and repeatable way
  • work in a nascent industry and shape the future of humanoid robots
  • gain experience with cutting edge technology and improve all aspects of your technical skills
  • thrive in an inclusive, supportive, and global culture

Within one month, you will…

  • familiarize yourself with internal processes and our production methodologies
  • get familiar with our bipedal humanoid platform (NEO) and our production roadmap for assembling it
  • gain hands-on experience by assembling one of our prototypes

Within three months, you will…

  • be self-sufficient, and lead the planning, execution and implementation of tasks
  • collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that design for manufacturing and assembly principles are implemented and the product matures alongside the production footprint
  • own all assembly process designs and documentation (layout, Bill of Equipment, Bill of Process, Manufacturing BoM etc.) for your assigned assembly area in the company

Within one year, you will…

  • be the go-to person with anything related to the assembly of your area of responsibility
  • lead production activities (prototype build, serial production trials) for your area of responsibility (e.g. select components of a robot) ensuring that the outcome meets quality and efficiency standards
REQUIREMENTS

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or higher education
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing process engineering and lean methodologies
  • Experience developing assembly processes for medium- to high-complexity electronics products from blank sheet of paper including specifying equipment list, designing cell layouts, developing assembly instructions etc.
  • Experience in working with Solidworks CAD and Altium
  • Working experience with electronics test equipment and workshop tools

Nice-To-Haves:

  • "Get-things-done" attitude
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills and strong ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
  • Understanding of highly dynamic environments where balancing competing priorities and timelines is needed (especially where design iteration timelines are extremely short)
  • Automotive or consumer electronics industry experience highly preferred
  • Experience with designing and implementing test automation solutions (particularly using Pyton)
